Montana

A to B: Bozeman, MT to Spokane, WA
Distance: 625 Miles
Suggested Length: 7 Days

The western half of Montana is so beautiful to drive through, and a stop in Coeur d'Alene makes this trip down Route 90 well-worth it. Highlights include the charming city of Missoula and the stunning Glacier National Park.

Driving across western Montana is a great way to see what this gorgeous state has to offer. Bozeman is a great place to fly into, and you'll want to spend a day here to see the city. Missoula makes for a great day trip destination, and you should plan 2-4 days to see everything in Glacier National Park. After that, keep heading west for a couple relaxing days in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho before heading back home via Spokane.

If you want to add a few more days to the trip, Bozeman is only two hours north of Yellowstone National Park. This enormous gem is chock-full of amazing sights, so I'd suggest adding three or four days. See the Yellowstone suggested trip for more information!

Start: BOZEMAN, MT

Bozeman and Missoula are both charming cities with a lot to offer. This is a great place to start a road trip based both on flight availability and the up-and-coming nature of the city. The three hour drive between them on Route 90 is a beautiful experience. Be sure to stop in Butte for a tour of the largest open-air mine in the U.S., the Berkeley Acid Pit.

Stop 1: Missoula, MT

Missoula is a great place to stop for a night or two on a Montana road trip. There is plenty to do in this chic and unique city. The restaurants are excellent, and the adventure scene is booming. Enjoy a walk along the river as you rest up for the next leg of the drive.

Stop 2: GLACIER NATIONAL PARK

Glacier National Park is a must-see. There is a ton of interesting wildlife in the summer, gorgeous views from the height of Logan Pass, and of course, glaciers. The Hidden Lake and Avalanche Lake Trails are two of the best in the park.

Stop 3: COEUR D'ALENE, ID

This charming city in the Idaho panhandle is one of my favorite places in the U.S. It's a cozy spot to relax for a few days, enjoy delicious restaurants, hike around the lake, and soak in the beauty of the landscape.

END: Spokane, WA

Spokane is an interesting city with a rich industrial history. Don't leave right away! Schedule your flight home for a day out so you can enjoy your final stop. There is plenty to see on a walk along the river and lots more to do in the downtown area.
